Counselling in Hampshire

Welcome to Calm Giraffe

Hello, I’m Helen Plummer, a BACP registered counsellor

We often face challenges in our lives when we feel overwhelmed or are struggling with loss, trauma or life changes. I offer you a chance to explore the difficulties you are experiencing in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment away from your day-to-day life.

From my own life experience and through my client work, I have seen how counselling can help you gain a fresh perspective and new self-understanding, enabling you to make the changes you want in your life.

As an experienced counsellor, I have worked in a variety of settings including counselling charities, primary health care, redundancy consultancy and university well-being services in both London and Hampshire.

Please get in touch if you’d like to talk about how we could work together.

My Approach

As an integrative counsellor, I value your uniqueness as an individual and tailor my approach to your specific needs and circumstances. Integrative counselling is a type of client-centred therapy that is responsive in approach and allows for flexibility. It is based on the belief that you are the expert of your own life. My role is to help you explore your situation, your feelings and thoughts with empathy and understanding and without any judgement. By working in this way we can build a trusted working relationship where you move at a pace that is appropriate to you.

My integrative training means that I have trained in several theoretical areas and use a range of approaches including Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Solution-focused therapy.

I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and work within the BACP Ethical Framework. This means I follow strict professional and ethical standards, receiving monthly supervision and ensuring strict client confidentiality and privacy. I work with clients who are aged 18 and over.

The First Session

It’s natural to feel nervous coming to your first counselling session and so it helps to know what to expect.

In the first session, we explore your reasons for coming to counselling, identify the main areas of focus and any goals you’d like to work towards. I also explain more about the way I work and answer any more questions you have. It’s an opportunity to get to know each other more and agree a way of working together.

The number of sessions you have can be tailored to meet your needs. Most clients tend to have about 6-8 sessions, but you may prefer to have fewer or more sessions according to your individual situation. Cancellations made less than 48 hours or less before an appointment will be charged at the normal session rate.

My Location

Sessions are based in my Winchester practice on an appointment only basis.
